CAN you? Sure!
You can also be in violation of any number of transportation/possession/ endangerment of exotic/wild/protected animals laws, (possibly earning you some jail time.
If the question of food is not an issue, be certain that you budget for medical care, as veterinarians who deal with Lions are not found on every streetcorner.
As for having a Lion because it would "look cool"... um... well, I tried, but I honestly can't thing of a worse reason to have one.
If you want a happy, healthy animal in your life, you had better be ready to make some sacrifices, do some research, shovel some poop and spend some quality time training.
Best wishes!

Well, my grandmother had a pet wolf once, but the government took it away, so legally no you can't have a lion as a pet, but if you buy enough land you could open a wildlife preserve and any animal there would technically be yours.

You can have a pet lion when it is only one or two years old. Beyond it you cannot keep it as you wont get pleasure or joy from lion as you get from dog or cat. You know very well dog understands your feelings but lion will not and it wants to have his own independent life. Rest is your decision.

There are laws regulating having exotic creatures as pets to protect them from being unfairly captured and to protect the foolhardy from themselves. Check out the Captive Wildlife Safety Act: there's an article about it on The Humane Society of the United States website - see www.hsus.org
Even the tamest lions and tigers (ever heard of Siegfried and Roy?) hand-reared from cubs are not really tame like cats and dogs.

What an ignorant statement…How many lions are there in this world that are pets? I would guess one lion to every million pitbulls. So if the ratio was even, how many lion attacks do you think would surface in the media?

It depends on your local zone laws.
I have had a pet bobcat for 15 almost 16 years. There are things you need to know before you make your choice, and then if you think you can handle it I can tell you where you can purchase one. They cost about 9,000.00 for a cub, which you will want.
Fist of all a wild animal will always be just that. Just because they are not being brought up in the wild, doesn’t mean they are any less wild. You can take the animal out of the wild, but you can not take the wild out of the animal.
You will need to find a vet that has the knowledge to take care of a wild animal. Not all vets are willing to do this. When I got O’Malley she was 10 weeks old. Her mother had been killed by hunters. She was malnourished and needed medical attention badly. I bottle fed her for 2 weeks while looking for a vet to take care of her. When I did find a vet, he gave her the proper shots and 6 weeks after that he spayed her. It is very important to spay or neuter the animal.
They are very unpredictable, even after she and I have lived together for 15 years, she still launches attacks. She is a wild animal.
You can train them to do tricks, as she knows a lot. However, you NEVER want to have a lot of different people around them. They are very territorial. You are part of their territory; they view you as part of their property.
NEVER feed then raw anything, do not let them get the taste for blood. The vet will tell you what to feed it so it doesn’t get the taste for blood and it still gets the proper nutrition.
When you take in a wild animal remember it is for life. Theirs and yours. I have it in my will should I die and she is still a live, they are to have her put to sleep and burry her with me. She would starve to death if I were not around to take care of her. I have tried to go on vacation and leave her with a friend, she refused to eat.
You will have to keep insurance on your animal should it attack and harm someone. A wild animal is something that you can not walk down the street or show off to your friends. It is yours to cherish alone.

Don't lions eat meat when they live in the wild? Maybe you should live on a farm so the lion has more room to run around and exercise.

Cool idea! But you'd have to have some antelope handy... and places for it to run around and stuff. You'd need about six miles of land lol. That is a cool idea. I'd prefer a tiger though, like Princess Jasmine off Aladdin (._. ;)
Lol have a star, that question is just plain cool...

Yes however you cannot afford one and you do not live in a legalised state so why even ask such a ridiculous question ?
That is like me asking if I can have a wolf for a pet ? Well no I cannot as they are opportunists and they would turn on me at a given opportunity whether I cared for it or not.

I think its illegal to have an exotic animal as a pet...... You can have one but only as a somekind of adoption (not as a pet but to helop save the species from extiction), you will have to do a lot of paperwork and everything, its hard big time
