Since a Paralegal cannot represent them, he can assist a person in many ways !!!

I don't believe paralegals can give legal advice. You wouldn't be able to appeal saying that you were not properly represented or given inadequate assistance.
You could have your mom assist you, but the fact that they are a paralegal will only benefit because of some knowledge that they might have.
You should probably see if there is a discount legal advice center in your area (no joke, they have those) that way you can make sure you are doing everything properly.

Paralegals cannot give legal advice, help fill out legal forms, or represent clients in court...therefore, this paralegal would not be any help. The paralegal in this instance would be treading very close to the line of the unauthorized practice of law and could be criminally charged.

I don't see why not.....I mean if they are representing themselves, the paralegal should be able to help them put together the case, but he/she would not be able to speak for them since he/she is not legally binding as a lawyer per say.

Probably not in the courtroom, although outside of there, it shouldn't matter.
