If your looking at the FM modulators (i.e. iTrip) - in my humble opinion they aren't worth the money.

They don't have a lot of broadcast power, therefore reception is sketchy at best. If someone goes by you with a satellite radio FM modulator (sirius or XM radio) it will overpower your iTrip if your both tuned to the same frequency - which is actually fairly common. They also suck the battery in the iPod dry. I drive 40-50 minutes one way to work - by the time I got to work my iPod battery was almost gone. I have a first generation iPod nano.

I gave up using my iTrip.

If she doesn't have an aux port on her car radio - I'd invest the money in a new car radio w/aux port that you can directly connect the iPod to through the headphone jack. Sound will be fantastic and she won't kill the iPod battery.

Other alternative is a cassette connection, assuming she has a cassette deck in the car. I don't have any experience with those.

you need to purchase a fm transmitter that plugs into the Ipod yet does require potential from the cigarette lighter. then you only music in the radio to the main suitable frequency.. job completed.. bit messy with wires even with the indisputable fact that../ yet another answer is that in case you have imputs on the lower back of the automobile stereo (some do) then only get an RCA to minijack cable and plug the cable into the lower back and path it to the front . you should purchase a holder for the ipod and twine the plug to that then all you should do is drop in the Ipod.. regards BaaL

I would search online to find comparisons and reviews (like cnet)
I had a Griffin one that was great
It plugged into the top and transmitted through the radio
I would recommend that brand.
Belkin is another that has good products for ipods
