The 300,000 members of The Polish Home Army or "Armia Krajowa" were far more effective than the French Resistance since it was able to effectively mount a continuous guerilla campaign which eventually led into a full military uprising, supply London with extremely valuable information about German rocket technology and their construction, rapidly upset German supply lines for both eastern and western front divisions and more often than not their information about attacks and counter attacks were far more accurate such as the predicted invasion of Russia in June 1941.
Their propaganda was also far more effective which created pessimissm amongst German troops off to combat Russia and created confusion amongst the admin officials.
Also they had hardly any collaboraters or spies within their midst unlike the French.
The "myth" of the French resistance is only kept alive because no one wishes to admit that half of that country was in uniform fighting WITH the Nazis or in the far east against the British and Australians.

While undeniably heroic and badly let-down by the Allies, the best-known action by the Armia Krajowa was not effective or useful for the Allies except that it drew troops from counter-attacking the Red Army's advance on Germany, the consequences of that can be judged. Possibly the most important contribution was information gathered on Peenemunde.

The French Resistance was a fragmented affair, basically divided along political lines, Gaullists and Communists, and never worked well together. The notion that they provided the chain that passed escaped POWs and downed aircrew is incorrect, that was a separate organisation, which although it overlapped was kept non-combatant. It was only after the arrival of SOE and OSS officers that the intelligence gathering and sabotage activities were coordinated and became useful to the Overlord planners.

The Polish home army DID take on the Wehrmacht in 1944 and lasted much longer than the French did in similar circumstances. The Brits have been a bit oversold on the Fr resistance - all those war films each with a sexy French girl ready to jump into the British agent's bed.

I would have to say, as others have, that if you put on the uniform of your country in times of war to defend it, then you are "the best" no matter what your nationality. It is without doubt that the USMC were indeed the best at what they did in the Pacific, but lets not forget the the US Army also took part in these operations. Just for you Ray: You are really stuck in a rut about Dunkirk and with your Soviet style education who can blame your really. What your "indoctrinators" failed to inform you about was Blitzkrieg - a phenomenon that all the armies in Europe had not met before. The US was to meet this at Kasserine Pass in North Africa when a superior US force met the Nazis. A second Bladensburg Races? The first flag of independent Federation of Malaya was based on the Stars and Stripes of the United States, combined with Islamic symbolism. Should go down well with your new POTUS, he might ditch Ole Glory and adopt this flag. Ray - you really ought to stay off the vodka before posting anything that sounds like a junkie on speed. Again you are like a record stuck in one particular groove. You always answer a question with a rant, never an answer, that is why I really don`t give a bucket of warm spit for any of your posts. But I try to be as balanced as possible and do a little research for my answers - perhaps you could do the same? DT`s getting to you? You an American - I don`t think so. I have served my country for the best part of 25 years, shedding a little blood, sweat and a few tears along the way, thats my claim to being a man - and yours is?

The French resistance and largely due to the fact that they were supplied by the allied air drops behind the lines so to speak the Polish resistance were pretty much left to thier own devices as to supplies.

Don't get too hepped up on the French, though. Thr french resistance was made up of a very few frenchmen. The majority were collaborators.

The French Resistance.
Both of them did a terrific job, but the French (for once) were superior. They managed a number of missions in which they aided the overall cause of the war.
They disrupted communications in preparation for the invasion of Normandy. They sabotaged positions that would have hampered allied attacks. They did reconnaissance and spying that gave precious intelligence.
