A feature story is one that is about something other than hard news. Hard news would be like coverage of a meeting, a police story such as incident where somebody was arrested, city government decisions etc. Features are often written about people, but they can also be written about an event, an organization, an accomplishment etc. It sort of lays out the facts in a more creative way, so it's both informative and interesting.

No I am 17 1/2 stone and I fit into one seat so why should I pay for two. The airlines waste more fuel than I weigh.

A feature is more like a story, with a beginning, middle and end, and with lots of details and creativity. It doesn't have to be about someones life, it could be about just about anything, as long as its got details.
