There is something I'm confused about. There are so many people out there that are absolutely AVID about having pets fixed. God says it is a sin to alter the body in any way. We are supposed to be burried whole. We aren't even supposed to donate our organs. So, what makes you think it's okay to alter your pets? Don't they deserve to be burried whole as well?

I didn'tsay I felt this way... I have gotten my animals spayed and neutered. I just want to know why Christians think it's okay. A lot of them seem to pick and choose from the Bible depending on what is convenient for them

You guys either aren't getting my question, or you aren't able to come up with a logical answer. Maybe you should pick up the Bible again. I'm not a Christian and I know more. And, your right, dude. You aren't supposed to have tattoos or piercings.

What ever happened to accepting your body as God made it? Again, I am just curious, as I am covered in tattoos and plan on donating myself. So many people out there consider their pets as children...

Okay, everyone is prety much done answering this question, but here you go, for those that claim to be informed Christians that live by God's word:
“Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28)
My work is done here

They deserve to be cared for if you chose to be responsible for them, but God also gave man dominion over animals, and free will to make decisions for them. (just my opinion of course) I also interpret the bible to mean that all living things have 'living souls' even plants,,,,but only humans have a 'heavenly soul' meaning to me, that animals do not go to the same place as people.
Great question!! as most of the same people that are fanatical about getting pets spayed/neutered,,,,are also the same ones that fanatically insist that animals have souls. It'll be interesting to see how they run around this question, with no real way to rationalize the answers based on their own rants and beliefs.

Where in the Bible does God say it is a sin to alter the body in any way? I have been a Christian all my life, read the Bible through several times, and even graduated Bible College, and have yet to encounter that verse.
Even if it were the case that God does not want people to alter their bodies, it does not necessarily follow that he forbids the altering of animal's body's. Animals are not created in the image of God and have no souls. Humans have been given the responsibility to rule over the animals, which means to make decisions regarding their welfare, including the decision to alter their bodies.

Unfortunately a lot of Christians do not even know their own religion. I am a christian (Baptist) and I do not believe that it is wrong to tattoo yourself (unless it's like a naked woman or something :) ), Peirce yourself, donate body parts, or have a pet fixed. Many so called Christians are guilty of misinterpreting the Bible for their own purposes. If you are confused, the best thing for you to do is read it yourself. :) What the preacher says is not always what "God says". remember that. Also, You CAN NOT go to hell because you "Altered your body" because if you ask God to save your Soul, there is NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING, you could ever have done that will condemn you to hell! We have a merciful, forgiving God and don't you ever let any dork tell you different! Bet you did not expect that from a Baptist. :)

First off, it's not "Christians" who feel that way, but certain denominations might.
Secondly, there are people who can (and will) twist the Bible to extremes in order to make it say 'what they want'.
Unless I'm misremembering, the whole "tattoo" thing is in Leviticus, anyway, and there are arguments that the Mosaic laws were supplanted in the New Testament.
That being said, I believe animals have souls/spirits, like humans do, and I'm pretty "fanatical" about spay/neuter. But I'm also donating my organs when I die. And believe me, if they'd let me get a hysterectomy right now, I would strongly consider it. But I'm not Christian, so the whole Bible-twisting thing doesn't apply in my case, anyway.

What do you think God would prefer--1. getting animals spayed or neutered to avoid over population 2. having thousands of animals running all over the place, starving, dying, and being mistreated.
I am going with number 1. I have never met a Christian in my life who had any issues with fixing a dog. This is an example of humans taking a bible verse and defining it to their satisfaction (or just to ask a stupid question!!!!!)
Can anyone let me know where it says in the Bible not to donate organs????

I have been a Christian my whole life and I have never heard that it's a sin to alter the body. If that were the case, then no one would be able to get their knees or hips replaced, or have their appendixes or tonsils removed.
Besides, Christian laws do not apply to animals.
EDIT: Oh, I thought you were saying that this was your belief. In that case, you might want to ask this question in the Religion & Spirituality category. You may get better answers there.

Not everyone believes the same thing you do, that's why it's Ok to alter pets. Also organ donation is a selfless act that saves lives, and have you been to a shelter lately? yeah... that's why we spay and neuter.

So, a child without tonsils, a woman that had a gall bladder removed, or a guy with no appendix is going straight to hell??
Yeah, and I also thought that since animals didn't have souls, the Christian laws and sins could not apply to them.

The reason responsible pet owners spay or neuter their pets is they will live a healthier longer life, the dog and cat population is already way out of control, thousands die in shelters across the country on a daily basis. If you love your dog or cat you'll spay or neuter it.

I don't think it applies to animals and also, what about haircuts? And of lot of guys get circumcised before they are baptized. I don't think ALL Christians believe what you are saying either.
