Totally random. Sometimes they go off your family history. Ask your mother about her children.

But that statistic didn't work for me..my mom had all of us 3 weeks early...and I'm sittin here on Yahoo Answers! 42 weeks pregnant still! haha

Well technically 36 weeks is considered full term. It sso different for every woman, and normal for them to deliver in this time period (or a couple weeks after). You can always get induced if you go too far past. I delivered 4 days early, but I've had friends that deliver only a day early, 2 weeks later, 6 weeks early- its different for everyone. 40 weeks is the average- but dont count on it being exactly 40 weeks!

I agree with a couple of answers ago - I also read in a pregnancy book that the *average* for first babies is 40 weeks + 5 days. Of course, average means that half are under that and half are over that! But the tendency is for first babies to be born late.

It is totally random.....with my first I went over a week but with my second child I went a week early. I had to be induced the first time and my water broke the second time....it's a lot more fun when your water breaks it's so EXCITING! May also be genetic so ask your mom about how late or early she went....hope this helps a little

I looked this up during my last pregnancy-- the average for a FIRST child is 40 + 5 (40 weeks and 5 days)-- at least it was the average for women who WENT INTO LABOR themselves. When you factor in scheduled c-sections and inductions, the average is earlier (I think it was 40 weeks 1 day).

that being said, I went into labor with my first at 38 weeks even.

While pretty random, Harvard did a study and found that first time moms more often go 1 week after due date than not. I was 3 days short of my due date.

Each individual is different. Some women deliver early, some right on time, and some go over 40 weeks and have to be induced.

Random.

Some people will tell you that first babies are always late...

I can name off five people whose first babies came at five different points...

One friend - 37 weeks
My sister - 39 wks 2 days
Me - 40 weeks 2 days
Another friend, 2 mos ago - 41 weeks 3 days (emergency c-section...baby did not want out)
My mother - 16 days early with me

You'll know when you know. :)

My first replaced into 41weeks precisely & she weighed 9lbs. We weren't prompted or something, I had a midwife. i'm 28wks pregnant w/our 2d and our midwife is going to maintain an eye fixed in this infant for length. 2d toddlers supposedly are not as possibly to be overdue. like the others have suggested, each and each being pregnant is different. You never understand what to assume. you are able to attempt evening Primrose Oil pills once you're around 37 weeks (verify w/your dr earlier) those are used to soften your cervix which permits as quickly as your physique is waiting for exertions. toddlers come whilst they're waiting! i'm annoying for the advent of our son yet nevertheless have 3 months!

Well, the average is 40 weeks for all kids, but the overriding factors are:
a) family history (e.g. if your family has a history of late kids, or premies
and
b) First kids on average tend to be born a bit (about a week later).
