That's the problem. In order to do one, you need to have the courage to know that you are NOT going to fall on your head. Chances are that you won't anyway, because your hands will hit the ground first. But you need to believe that you can do it, otherwise you will fail.

First off, you need to have confidence. You have to be fearless and just KNOW you are not going to fall on your head. That only happens to people who don't know what they are doing. If you are trained, and know how to do a back walkover, no problem, mon! (Hehe xD) Anyway, it IS hard to explain, so here is a link.
It's really helpful to anyones back handspring!
This is the link : http://www.wikihow.com/Do-a-Back-Handspring
Good Luck!! Have faith that you can do it, and you will succeed!

Remember, if you don't have a spotter to help you, it is a good chance that you WILL fall. Do it on a trampoline. With a spotter at first, but then when you can do it with a spotter pretty well, try it on a trampoline. When you master the trampoline, Try it on the floor!!! Once again, good luck and be careful!

Please, do not attempt a back handspring by yourself. You should be afraid for a reason. A back handspring can be a very dangerous move when one is attempting it for a first time. I suggest you find a spotter (a tumbling or gymnastics coach) to catch you when you go in your mid-air back arch, to help you put your hands down and then flip you over. Over time you'll get used to the movement and you'll need less and less help.

That's a coaches job.
Don't try it without an experienced teacher.
