I have a Dell desktop computer. How can I know the model, and the type of RAM it needs? It is 2GB RAM, but I want to upgrade it to 4GB. Thank you!

It is an Intel Core Duo, and I realized there are many types of Memory:
- DDR
- SDRAM
- DDR2
- RDRAM
- RAM
- EDO
Which one do I need?

Its either DDR or DDR2 (probably DDR2) its now a matter of what SPEED of ram to get 533? 266? You could open up your computer and see what kind you already have.
Also be known if you have windows xp 32 bit you are only going to be able to USE about 3.2 GB of RAM. (You won't get all 4 gbs with 32 bit Windows, its because 32 bit windows can only address up to 4 gb, but windows needs "virtual memory" to run so it takes up some, leaving you with something around 3.2 gb of RAM).
Not many programs use more then 2 gb or RAM. 3 should be plenty.

That's easy take the ram out that is in there it is written on the side. To be more precise take the ram with you and compare it to the new ram you want to buy. If you are using both the new and old ram together. Make sure you put the new one with the higher bytes in the first slot and the old one in the second slot . Because if you do it opposite the new ram will only run as good as the old because it is smaller.

Go to http://belarc.com and download their free program Advisor. It will produce a report that tells you in detail what kind of memory you currently have (brand, model, memory sizes, what slots they are in, and if you have an open available slots).
It will also give you anything else you could ever want to know about the hardware and software on your PC.
(Unlike the popular critical.com, (which only give you limited memory infor and nothing else) belarc.com will not them attempt to sell you the memory.)
