You only need to get a 48 on the final.

75%(84) + 25%(x) = 75

Solving for "x"...

63 + 25%(x) = 75

25%(x) = 12

(100/4)(x) = 12

(x) = (12)(4/100)

x = 48

However, please note that you shouldn't start slacking off. :o) But if you have a 84 in the class, I'd say that you are doing well and are the studious type and I like that! Don't settle for less... always strive to do your best in everything you do. If your teacher saw that your 84 turned into a 48... I don't think that would flatter him/her. Even though you could argue that you "passed" the class with a 48 on the final, don't give him/her reason to give you a grade other than what is representative of your work ethic!!! :o) Aim for a 100... if you only shoot for a 48, then let's say that you ended up with a 32 (hypothetically speaking).... then it'll be "oops", rather than "woohoo!!!"

Say the desired final grade is 75. Then

75 = ( .75 )( 84 ) + ( .25 )( G )

G = ( 75 - ( .75 )( 84 ) ) / .25

So you could pass with a C if you earn a 48 on the final.

This is of course entirely theoretical. Teachers can be a capricious lot and may pass or fail you with a different grade.

your 84 accounts for 75% of your grade so:

84 * (.75) + x * (.25) >= 75
63 + .25x >= 75
.25x >=12
x >= 48
