On craigslist I see a bunch of slums. I decided to go drive around myself. Im not from the area. but I hear El Cahon blv is a good place to look and university ave. Are there any other streets. close to the 805 that maybe I should drive by to check out? Im not really looking to live in national city or chula vista. thanks please no rude or sarcastic comments.

Hi Tia-

Go to the north of I-8. Try Clairemont. Middle class community just off the 805 which sits between the I-15 and the I-5. The El Cajon Blvd. area Is not the best area to live in. Hookers and druggies are more abundant there. Check out the apartments on Clairemont Mesa Blvd.

Run a Googlle earth search for CM Blvd. starting around the 5000 block to the 7000 block. Then zoom in to see the landscape. The zip codes are 92117 and 92111.

I've lived in San Diego for a long time and would never consider living south of the I-8 near the 805.

Good luck to you,

I have lived in the area for many years and these are my picks for the best places to live in the Center City area.

You might try North Park south of University between the
805 and Balboa Park that is a nice well established upwardly mobile area. Also the area between Park Blvd. and 30th St. is good. If you really want the west side of the 805 try Azalea Park off of Poplar St. it is a middle class enclave that is becoming a haven for gays and lesbians with families.

The area between El Cajon Blvd and University is cheaper but less desirable.

The area north of Adams Ave is another area to look at especially Normal Heights, University Heights, and Kensington.

Several good realtors who know the area are listed in GSDBA directory it is available for free at most libraries and at Clair d'Lune's coffee house on University.

i would definitely try Kensington if money isn't too much an issue... it is very quiet, walking distance to local restaurants as well. Another great place would be university heights a younger crowed but very trendy as well. hillcrest is also great if youre not a homophobe. Hillcrest is soo convenient with transportation.. markets.. restaurants.. and entertainment... Either way i personally would live in those areas no matter what... By the way clairemont has a lot of white trash people .. i dont think i have seen any new development in clairemont and a lot of their apartments look like motels (clairemont Mesa Blvd).. so gross!! its like santee without the racism

Look for places in North Park or Normal Heights, University Heights, or Hillcrest.

You might find this website useful. All of the apartments listed have websites, so you can get an idea of what is offered.
