I was at a bar last weekend and there was a fight and the cops were called. Two Russian guys who were in the fight were arrested outside the bar. While they were being searched and questioned they are talking to each other and the other bar patrons in Russian despite knowing English. The cops were screaming at them to stop talking in Russian to each other.

Is there anything against this? Why couldn't they talk to each other in Russian?

No law against it, but it will probably earn you a "screen test" on the way to the jailhouse.

The cops probably didn't like it but there is definitely no law against it.

How would you like it if you were the cops and in Russian he was telling theme wear a gun was to shoot them. or to help them escape. I would have put a sock in there mouth.

despite if that's no longer a criminal offense, it may be no longer common for the police officer yet whilst they have somebody in the branch that may talk Russian they could probable call and have that individual translate.
