Im 34 weeks pregnant. I was called today amd put on bed rest for preeclampsia, ans was told I would need to go twice a week to the hospital for stress tests. Do most women wth preeclampsia usually deliver early?

Just wanted to clear something up on the worst case senario up there.

If you were to deliver today and the baby weighed close to or over 5 lbs and was healthy with no problems...baby wouldn't even have to stay in the hospital any longer than normal. The earlier you deliver the more chance of an extended stay...but it's NOT always necessary.

You have a very good chance of making it to "full term" (37 weeks is the beginning) and having a perfectly normal delivery and a perfectly healthy baby with no problems!

Best of luck to you!

They monitor your blood pressure and if it gets too high they deliver the baby, since it's the only cure for pre-eclampsia. The fact you got to 34 weeks is great. I have worked with babies born much earlier due to this condition. Hopefully they can get you to 37 weeks. If they had to deleiver you today (worst case scenario) your baby would stay in the hospital for about 2 weeks (until he/she reached 36 weeks gestation) but would not have all the problems that most premature babies get when born prior to 34 weeks.

i found out that i had preeclampsia abut 37 weeks and my blood pressure was 159/110 so they did a urine collection for 24 hours and when i went to the dr he told me i had preeclampsia but it was mild and had to induce me before it got too bad. he told me to go home, get everything and go to the hospital bc he had to induce me. i had had swelling for a while and went to L&D bc i had a really bad headache(and nothing helped me, i was even prescribed meds htat did not help) and that is when they found out that i had had it but before, all i had had was swelling and high bp
