To be brutally honest, all "doctors" are not indeed true doctors, as they do not have a doctorate from a university, they all have MDs, or medical degrees instead. While this has no effect on their credentials as qualified health personnel, it's just a title that they themselves do not really have a right to, unless they get a doctorate in some other field.

Usually their diplomas are displayed in office. Most offices will give the information out if you call and ask for it. If they're on-staff at hospital, the hospital will have the information also. US training is longer than that of most other countries. Doctors do 4 years undergraduate university, then 3 years medical school, addiitional years for specialization, then internships and residency. All of this information should be given upon request.

A GP has to be registered with the GMC (General Medical Council). He would not be able to practise and nor would be given a job without making necessary checks on his certificates and registration details. Mind you, is Doctor Who really a doctor?????

Some people really cant tell.
Yes the doctor should have a degree and paper work.
You should ask to see it they really cant deny it.
It would be hard to tell you everything you have to look for.

ask her or him to show you her/his diploma.
