She could use a wireless access point at an elevated place in the house. An access point is a dumb wireless repeater.

You can often times configure a wireless router to function as an access point - basically you turn off all the routing functions.

Alternative is to move the current router physically higher in the house.

You could also get a 802.11n router and NIC for the laptop. 802.11n works over a larger distance.

Another option is a directional antenna for the router, but you would still want the router positioned higher in the house. You may need to run a directional antenna external to the house - pointed at the summer house.

You can only run one router on the connection, you could try a wireless repeater upstairs, this needs to be in range of the router and whatever you use 150 feet is about the best range you will get, and at that the antenna will need to be at a window.

You can add a second wireless router as a Wireless Access Point.
This takes the feed from the 1st router (via cable) and then wll transmit on wireless as required.

However, distance is a great inhibitor and you will only get about 30 meters before the speed drops off dramatically, using a normal transmitter reciever - so don't expect it to work over a long distance

You have two options:

First, purchase a Router which has a larger area of coverage, such as one of the newer 802.11n Routers, but you should also use an 802.11n capable Adapter along with it to receive the most benifits.

Second, you could purchase an Access Point Range Extender, which you hook into one of the ports on your existing Router, with a cable, and then place that AP closer to the area you wish to extend coverage. I have a Belkin 802.11n Router, Adapers, and have plugged in an Belkin Range Extender AP. It is very simple to add to the existing Router as it is only being used to extend the range, and so does not need excessive configuration to use.

Good luck and much success in extending the range of your Wireless Network to your summer house.

You will only be able to have 1 router, but you should be able to move the one from downstairs, upstairs.

My router is in the kitchen (god only know why the developers put the phone line in the kitchen), and I'm on the second floor and it works great.

A on the spot modem router could be a on the spot router/modem blend and a on the spot router might purely be a router by using itself. in case you had intense-velocity cable information superhighway you may wish a modem related to a on the spot router to get on line.

depending on the distance, try a longer antenna for the router. I got a longer antenna from radio shack for my router and I am good for over a block in distance now. At the time, radio shack said if the antenna was not suitable they would take it back,so I guess you got nothing to lose. The price of the antenna at the time was on sale for 20 bucks.

just by a wireless repeater. what it does is boost your signal so your signal reaches hard to reach ares(your Garden). Look for them at your local department store, or but it online.

She probably has an older router, replace it with an N (or G 108) router and she should be ok.
