first of all we have oprah openly supporting obama, and now we have chuck norris openly supporting mike huckabee.

dont you think that is a little unfair for the rest of the candidates?

we all know how much "power" a celebrity has, i wonder how many people will vote for obama simply because oprah said it was the best candidate.

Celebrities have the same rights as you and I, to publicly support whomever they feel is the best one...But tell me who would take alot of stock in what a celebrity has to say?

You cant take away their constutional right to free speach just because they are famous. Yes celebrities have lots of influence over us "little people" but they still have the right to support whomever they choose. Those that base their votes on what a famous person say is the best candidate is pathetic and should learn to think for themselves, dont blame people like Oprah and Chuck Norris for this blame the people who are to dumb to think for themselves.

Not really because people should vote for a candidate based on his stand on the issues not because Oprah or Chuck Norris says you should support a certain candidate.

Off course its fair - people use their money and power every day in this country. Its how a lot of things get done... "its all who you know..."

Those celebrities have rights just like everyone else and if they want to endorse a candidate so be it.

The more problematic issue here is that such a high percentage of our country actually uses celebrity endorsements to choose their candidate... thats the problem!

People who don't think for themselves might follow her lead - you know, like a lemming but I want to believe most folks prefer thinking for themselves.

I do think it's unfair - I prefer the days when coverage had to be balanced - this practice scares me because the power of the media is already overwhelming. Besides, I don't think much of Ophrah so that really makes me wonder about Obama - and I have absolutely no thoughts about Chuck Norris.

Celebrities only have power if we give it to them. Why would Oprah or Chuck Norris influence your opinion about a candidate?

Any endorsement of any kind can help raise awareness of a candidate's stand on certain issues.
It doesn't matter if the endorsement comes from religious, environmental, union, gun rights, celebrities, or any other special interest group. the point is to help support whatever issue that group or person finds important, and help raise awareness of a candidate who supports those issues.
It isn't so much of a "vote for whom I tell you to" thing, as it is "my candidate supports the things I find important."
So, endorsements are a good thing.

I think it is good whenever people care about who our elected officials are.

Having a celebrity publicly endorse a candidate is fine with me. At least you know who is doing the endorsing and can evaluate whether that means anything to you.

Rich people support candidates, too, by contributing a lot of money to campaigns and PACs. There are advertisements and other notices paid for by those donations and it is not easy for the public to know who was behind it and what special interests they have.

So I prefer celebrity endorsements for their transparency.

I had decided to vote for Obama before Oprah endorsed him. Her, and any other celebrity's, opinion means little to me. I read, listen and ask questions, that is how I base my vote.

Unfortunately celebrity means they can use their fame, power and fortune to do what they want. Would it matter if they were just normal millionaires? Probably not. I would hope that in something as important as the Presidential election, people will make up their own minds instead of just following the masses.
