The company is called Harley Davidson.

Softail is the family of bikes. Harley makes Softail, Dyna, Touring, Sportster, and V Rod. It's like how a car company might have sedans, trucks, coupes, and sport cars.

Duece is the model name. It's like Mustang or Camry.

Duece is the "model". Like "Electra-Glide" or "Sportster". The "softail" part is in reference to the rear suspension that "mimic's" the look of a "rigid" frame, but gives you the smoothness of a hidden spring. It is very popular.

It was done as an inside joke at the Harley factory. They knew that duece was a popular slang term for a peice of sh*t so they names their bike after it to see if anyone would notice. Of course all the inbred hillscoggins bought it anyway then became the laughing stock of all those with a family tree that isn't just a straight line.

Deuce: 2 cylinders, like all Harley's.
Softail: motorcycles that feature a moveable rear suspension system with springs or shock absorbers to absorb bumps.

I believe it's called the deuce because it's the first model that has twin cams for each cylinder.
Softtail because they added this great invention call shocks absorbers.
