Advantages:
-Loved by many.
-Won't have to follow certain rules.
-Might get favoritism.
-I guess it can help your self-esteem.

Disadvantage:
-Hated by many.
-Failure is not private.
-Jealousy by people.
-It will probably change you for the worst, in some cases.

Your question reminds me of a pretty high school cheerleader I knew, who claimed she wasn't popular at all. I suspect this was due to low self-esteem.

Even if being popular means you have a lot of people showing some kind of support for you doesn't necessarily mean that it will make the person feel better about themselves.

well... I think I would rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not.... thats a quote although Im not sure who said it.
