Why is it that so many people think there are 52 states ?
Not 49, not 51, not 53, but 52. Could it be because there are 52 cards in a deck ? This has always puzzled me. I first noticed it when Howard Stern would ask strippers or homeless people trivia questions and a good number of them would answer 52 to the number of States.

There are 50 states and some territories. Either you are a time traveller who is mistaken as to which era you are in or you do not know there are only 50 states. Maybe you are speaking of another country? I do not know of one that has 50 states though.
I can definately say that I have visited every county in Louisiana though and I have never even set foot in that state.

Unless someone went and added some states to the union without my knowledge, there are only 50 states.

Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands are considered US territories and are included in most current books and materials that concern the United States. Their residents are considered US citizens, although they are not allowed to vote. Which seems really wrong, imo.

I've been to @ 15 of the states the best being: California, the northern part is very nice

Did they add Guam and Puerto Rico? I don't think so. We would have had a party or something.
I have been to 26 states, and the territory of Guam.
