There are so many variations because there are so many local choreographers. Choreography is copyrighted and only certain companies have the rights to perform certain variations.

There are so many variations because there are so many different people interpreting it. To expect everyone to have the same take on a musical theme is unrealistic. Just as no two individuals are alike, their mental products (i. e. artistic productions, etc.) are going to differ. You should be glad that this is the case, otherwise the world would be a very boring place.

The original was composed by Pyotr (Peter) Ilyich Tchaikovsky as part of "The Nutcracker Suite," completed in 1892, and is based on a German tale, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King."

It's hard to beat Tchaikovsky's compositions, so I suppose his version will remain my favorite.

I assume you mean in The Nutcracker, since there are no faries in real life.
