the switch that makes the basket spin and stop and rinse needs to be replaced, it looks pretty simple but the problem is i dont know how to get in there to replace it. i have a kenmore washer( dont know the model but it's 3 years old). can i take the back off and replace it or does the top come off? its a top loading washer. i dont know what catagory to put this under so im sorry!

Most of your top load washer have screws that hold the control panel together. you will have to remove the knobs first. Remove all the screws that hold the panel together. When you open the panel you will see the "timer" is held on by usually two or three screws and has a large wire harness plugged into it. remove the scews and unhook the wire harness and reverse the process to install the new one. but make sure the unit is unplugged first...

the front will come off, look for screws along the edge or in the back, make shure its unpluged,
