First of all, you can't adjust reality. Reality is what it is.
Second, they don't adjust their policy to fit reality. Their policy is pre-determined by others, behind the scenes, much of it written long before the current administration even took office.

They are out of touch with reality and their policy has little to do with it.
They seem to think that they can push their policy and make reality what they want it to be - this is wishful thinking and it will backfire on them eventually - probably within the next 6 months. They are already in deep doo-doo and getting deeper by the minute.
