If you're having a problem with Windows XP, you can try to repair the installation, but that depends on what problem you are having. You'll need to describe more.

If you want to try to repair the installation of Windows XP, you should just be able to put your Windows XP CD in the drive.

if you have more than one partition then it will be possible, ensure that you have copied the programs original folders into the other drive assuming that your c drive contains the XP.

beware that some programs that you install from the internet may not necessarily have the full executable (the actual software to click one and then run so a sto install) downloaded to your PC, so be care full.

But you can copy all your files and folders into the other drive and ensure that you again copy them to an external deive harddisk or usb memory.

format only the Boot drive where you have xp , you can do this from command prompt, or you can do it with the XP CD (not always recommended though) better still, format by right clicking on the c drive and click format.

then install the new OS back on to the drive, but if it goes wrong you already have the files and folders copied out of your PC. be sure that the size of the c drive is enough for the new OS you want to install.

Try using XDrive to store all of those files. www.xdrive.com or just use an external harddrive. Then, format, and download them all from your XDrive account or external harddrive to your new system. Good luck!

formatting simply means erasing everything including all softwares and your os.
