I've been saving for a computer for 4 years, Christmas/Birthday money. Well, this year I have enough to buy one and everyone in my family except my dad thinks its about time I go ahead and buy one. His reason is he doesn't want me to spend my money, however the only reason I have money it because people gave it to me to buy a computer.. >_< I've told him every reason I could think of to convince him, but it doesn't look like he'll change his mind. EVERYONE in my family knew I've been saving for 4 years, and i'd only be spending my money...I don't understand why I'm not able to get one, does this sound fair to you?

he may be afraid that you'll get in trouble with people online. take your mom with you if she is ok with you having a computer. then you won't be the one in trouble. lol

YOu don't tell us your age and that makes a big difference. But the fact that you've been saving for 4 years tells me you are very mature and adult-thinking.

DON'T try to circumvent your father's authority. Respect him and his authority. What you must do is ask your father to discuss this issue, then be ready to hear him say NO again WITHOUT getting upset, beyond your current discouragement.

Tell him quietly and calmly what you have told us - point by point. Finally, emphasize that you accept whatever parental restrictions he might impose on your use of the computer, then further emphasize what responsible use you will put the computer to.

Good Luck

Will as a parent of four teens I think that your dad might have his reasons for not letting you get your own computer. When my oldest daughter graduated from high school she saved all of her money she got at her party and her money from her paychecks so that she could buy a computer. My husband and I saw how hard she was working and we went and bought her a computer and allowed her to save her money or use it on herself. With Christmas right around the corner maybe your father wants to get you a computer and he is just giving you different excuses for why you shouldn't buy one yourself.

He is possibly afraid that you will get involved with the weird people and stalkers that lurk on the net, and rightly so.

He probably doesnt know how to protect you from that so he is taking the easy option and stopping you buying a PC. He is just being a good dad.

Maybe you should ask him if that is the real reason and then discuss some parental control software to be installed on your PC....this may convince him.

Just be safe online
