It was in preparation for invasion.

The bombings were supposed to break down the resistance of the British, so that "Operation Sealion" - the German plan to invade, could go forward.

The bombings were to destroy production and infrastructure, hurt the spirit of the British people, and disable a lot of the British military.

Originally in an effort to destroy the RAF so that Germany could invade Britain. Then came an accidental bombing of London by a lost German bomber. Then came a British retaliatory strike in Germany, which was answered by the Blitz.

Germany wanted to invade Britain making Bridgenorth in the Midlands it's HQ, so they started to bomb sites of importance.

They were tactical bombings, not really indiscriminate as Hitler saw the advantage of having an island off the coast of Europe. He didn't count on the skills & daring of the RAF though.

We have alot to thank them for.

germany and britain were at war.

germany wanted to invade britain by sea but before this could be done it had to destroy its air force to gain air superiority. so the bombing campaign was to destroy the air force and terrorize the british people into surrendering. it wanted to also destroy its production - factories etc so no tanks or bombs could be built to use against germany
