Yep...I hang 3 or 4 sprigs from strategic locations to make sure nothing gets missed!

It's never obligatory, but it is traditional to do so.
The tradition is for it to be in a doorway, but I don't think you are pushing the tradition too much to use other locations, within reason. :)
