I absolutely hate it. Hubby expressed the view that I'd be better off leaving ahead of the traffic rather than being stuck in it. He'd cleaned my car and it was warmed up. So off I went on slippery roads, accidents all over the place, new windshield wipers kept icing up, etc. I work 21 miles from home. I got to the office and they hadn't even plowed the parking lot. Half an hour later I heard the plow leaving so I went out to move my car closer to the building. Wouldn't you know it...they plowed my car in. I had to kick a foot and a half of snow away from the front of the car just to drive through 6" to get out of the pile. My cell phone kept ringing while I was still driving. I was not going to answer it while driving. When I finally talked to him to tell him I arrived at work, I was shaking so much it took another half an hour to get my hands to stop shaking. I have decided hubby is not always right.
How do you cope driving in a storm?

It's been snowing here since Sunday night. We've gotten better than a foot so far. The forecast is for flurries and snow showers until Friday then it's supposed to snow again in earnest! If I have to go out I leave extra early and take back roads where I won't have anyone up my @$$. You would think people would leave extra distance between them and the car in front of them in bad weather and slow down, yea right! I just take my time, and having 4-wheel drive is certainly a help!

I have been watching your storms on the news, it makes me shiver and cringe to watch it. I live where we had the terrible ice storms last January and it brings back unpleasant memories.
I grew up in Michigan where we had some bodacious winter storms so I learned to drive in it, but now that I am older and don't feel quite so invincible, I stay home if it gets to bad. Even tho I have a 4-wheel drive pickup, the same one I used to have to just get out there and drive in because I COULD, there are too many idiots out there now who have no clue how to drive in the stuff, so I won't be a part of it any more. I know I can drive in it, but I don't trust the other guy to know how. I don't have to go to work every day now, but when I did, there was that 4 wheel drive, and if it was too bad, I just didn't go. Momma didn't raise any dumb kids in my family!
We probably won't get our bad storms here until January so our turn is coming.
Blessed be and stay safe.

If I can I try to leave earlier for work. Then just go with the flow and/or try to find an alternate route. Had about 3 more inches of snow during rush hour last night. Of course my wife didn't accept my suggested alternate route and it took her 2 hours to go 2 miles, until her car died on the freeway. Luckily there was a trooper nearby to call a tow truck for her. Isn't winter fun !

Lady G, I can certainly relate to having to drive in snow and ice. We're in the country and sometimes they don't get the roads plowed for hours after it snows (it seems just when we get our drive-way cleared, the plow comes through and block us in again). If I have to drive, I just take it very slowly and avoid driving during white-outs. If driving isn't necessary, I just stay home. We just got our car out of the shop from hitting a deer, I don't need another wreck! Drive safely!

Fortunately, I'm retired so I don't have to drive to work. I do
have a weekend job teaching knitting at Michaels. I won't
drive in the snow. I don't need anything that badly from the
grocery store that can't wait until it stops snowing. Our cul-de-sac is seldom plowed out in time, so I just wait.
It's snowing here in Maryland. Hubby had to drive in the snow to work this morning.

Glad that you made it safely. I hate driving in snow like that and I usually have to clear off my own car and warm it up. When I have to drive in the snow I just take it easy and leave plenty of room between me and the car ahead. No snow today, but I hear more is on it's way.

Ever since last Saturday here. Has been a real challenge. Next to no visibility coming home yesterday as we now have about a foot and a half. I drive in the granny lane with 4 way flashers when it is really bad so everyone can see me coming.

I didn't... in fact sitting here with the window open enjoying the fresh cool air... I do remember those days though! We lived on a hill, (Northern Utah) the sun never hit it and it was a nightmare! Germany also, lots of snow and Ice storms!

I'm so glad I'm retired. I used to have to drive 30 miles to work and I would always go the "back way" when the roads were bad. We had flex time so I didn't have to be at work at a certain time.
