You will have to buy
1. Hub
2. 2 Ethernet cables ( with Jack)
3. Ethernet cards for computers, if they are not there.
By the way, You have not specified which operating system your old & new computer running on. preferably if both have same better for you. If they are Windows XP, The computer will sense presence of each other automatically and both will be on network without any trouble after wiring is taken care off.

You will probably get a better answer if you let us know what type of a LAN you're talking about (home, business, wireless, cabled, etc.). However, if you don't need the old CPU on the network, you can just buy a switch that allows for use of one keyboard, mouse, monitor to control 2 pc's. If you have a router, just buy a cable and plug it in from the router to the old CPU.

You could set up a home network by using either a router or a network switch, and then just share the hard drive to the network. That part isn't all that hard, but sharing a monitor is gona be a bit different. You will need a KVM switch so that you can switch between the to computers. It may be a better idea to pick up a used monitor for the older machine.

Or, you can remove the drives from your old computer and install them into the new system. If you choose this method, be sure to set all jumpers to their correct positions.

A router. Wired or wireless depending on your needs. If you're on broadband you should have one already for firewall protection.
