I don't like sitting and doing nothing so just asking for some ideas. I have to take my husband to the VA hospital at least three of four times a month and have to sit in the waiting rooms for long periods of time and I like to always be doing something. I do take books but seem to have a hard time reading because of the distractions around in the busy VA hospital. I have taken puzzle books too and the same thing, I get distracted very easy. So any and all ideas are welcome.

i'd say start a conversation with someone there
my dad goes to the VA here a lot & thats what we do
imagine...they're probably thinking the same thing you are
y'all may have some things in common
you might make a new friend to talk to there & outside the VA

of course there is a downside, as some people are just straight out rude...

you'll never know if ya don't try though
some of those people may not have anyone to talk to about their loved one who's there or themselves

i say try it...it'll definitely pass the time none the less

Try getting into embroidery, or knitting or crocheting. These are all things that if you do them well you can 'do' despite all the distractions. If you don't feel comfortable with that, get some origami paper and a book of instructions, and take that and 'learn to fold' ... if anyone asks you, and you have two or three cranes made, you can say 'I'm folding 1000 cranes so my wish will come true.' That is a 'conversation stopper' I've used when people were bugging me.

Oh god I'm so sorry. The va takes forever. I usually start up a conversation with a friendly person or I text message people on my cell phone. Maybe get a subscription to a magazine you really like.

I recently bought an iPod and it has a music trivia game that came pre-loaded on it - so I play that to while the time away.

Next thing I know, it's my turn for my appointment.
