I am just curious to know. And if they have, how do they make them into crispy hollow tubes of crunchy bits on the outside and nothing but air in the middle?

Only spuds have eyes, so mc donalds chips... or fries... can't see anything.

I reckon they are made from wallpaper paste.

I couldn't possibly comment on McD's but...

I knew someone who was employed (elsewhere!) as a potato chewer. He used to chew through mounds of potatoes a day, reducing them to a paste ...hard work but it came with a great dental plan which he needed because he kept wearing his teeth out

When the goodness was all removed from the spuds, He'd form them into chip like things with the 'roll-your-own freedom presser'

Then He'd fry heck out of them ...they had so little integrity that the centre would just evaporate out of self disgust leaving a pale shell of itself. These 'fryoids' would then be refryed 3 more times to ensure a crispiness that would hold up under the stress of packaging ...if only for the time it takes to get back to your car

Hope I have been of some help (c;

More to the point has a Mc Donald's burger ever seen a cow? My grandson is a regular user of the Establishments until last week when his tooth hit something hard, on examination it was a identity disc with the inscription 'Tiddles' if found, return to 1 Acacia Avenue, when he went to the airport last weekend an identichip showed up on the xray machine, when they ran the wand over him the machine registered him as 'Rover'

They are not made from spuds but flour. Like instant potato molded into chip like things.
Most of the so called food in McD is just bad for you and should go nowhere near your stomach if you want to avoid gut diseases, including cancer, in later life.

They aren't hollow inside. You can make similarly fluffy fries at home. (Although the ones I make aren't as thin sliced.)

You take a potato and pre-cook it in the microwave. let it cool in the fridge until you can handle it comfortably. Slice it into coins, and then slice the coins into strips. Gently add to the hot fry oil and cook until golden

If the potato is "over-baked" it will crumble when you slice it. It needs to be just shy of "done" when you pull it from the microwave. It should also be good and cold before you slice it up.

Actualy, McDonald's fries are real potatoes, they make the majority of all their fries in a plant near Grand Forks, North Dakota. They don't make them hollow in the middle, that comes from the frying in oil.

Of course they have seen a potato...if you eat a fry before it goes in the deep fryer, it tastes like a raw potato, basically. Ugggg...Amazing what a little oil and salt can do!!
