I took my car in and the machanic at Mobil told me there was something very simple wrong and he fixed it and he was only charging me $60. I paid in cash and did not get a reciept (stupid on my part I know). As soon as I got home the check engine light cam on agian and I had to take it to a different place and get it fixed.
The guy at Mobil took advantage of me, said they only take cash payments and screwed me. Can I do anything? Write to Mobil, get in touch with Better Business Bureau? Help!

If the mechanic isn't the owner, I'd talk to the owner first before reporting them to Mobil or to BBB. But unfortunately without a receipt, you have no way to prove what really happened, so you are probably going to be out of luck.

what did the guy at mobil fix? did the second place fix the same thing or a different problem? ya, without a receipt you
may be out of luck with the business. definitely worth talking to the owner, mobil corp won't do anything. it's a local issue.

Yeah, quite likely, the guy at Mobil kept your cash. He probably made no record of the payment. Find out who owns the station, and discuss the matter with him. Start dumb, like, "Could I get a copy of the paperwork?" He'll probably say, sure, and then he won't be able to find any. Point out the person who took care of you. That will lead to additional questions by the owner. My guess is you'll probably get your $60 bucks back, and he'll be one employee less.

If not, check it up to a lesson learned.

It is actually possible that the mechanic fixed one problem and did not see another. Go back to the shop and ask for an explanation. Next time get a receipt and chalk this one up to experience and know better next time.
