if you miss a psychotherapy assesment appointment because of your panic and anxiety?
i attended the first assesment appointment.....and overall ive been trying to get the help i need from the mental health services.
im 30 years old and have borderline personality disorder....i live a lonely life....on sickness benifits in a one bedroom flat.....ive never made any friends in life.......never had a partner....never been employed ever....never gained any qualifications at all ever.
the psychotherapy place have told me on the phone because i didnt attend and gave them short notice, that theyve discharged me back to my referers....my doctor or cpn, psychiatrist..
i feel really bad but get very bad anxiety about going out....im in the process of getting a second opinion because my psychiatrist wont perscribe any medications because there addictive.. & im not certain that i dont have a mental illness either, so im seeking a second opinion.
im afraid though that missing this appointment

You need to be on meds, i suffered really bad with anxiety and panic attacks and have been on meds for 10 years, Seroxat is the drug and has really helped me, i have become agrophobic a few times. Get a taxi to the Docs or have someone from your family go with you, you should not be suffering like this. There is also a crisis line you can call in your area if i knew what area you lived i could get it for you, you can also have a Doctor to come and visit you as a home visit.
I really hope you get help. It is really horrible feeling like this, you can email me if you need to chat and i can give you more advice.
There is a good forum site called www.nomorepanic.com which is great and really helpful. Suzi xxxx

I have a very similar problem as you and have gone through the same difficulties when it comes to employment and relationships. I was also terribly abused by my mother as a child and its emotionally scarred me for life. The only difference is that I'm 5 years older than you. Unlike you, I have not sought medical treatment because I don't think it will help. Psychoanalysis in my view is not effective in treating panic disorders or OCD (like I have). Nor are medications. I have devised my own treatment and I have found it more effective than any other I've read about. In fact, I'm actually thinking of applying for some jobs today. You must, in a nutshell, change your attitude. The reason why you have anxiety is because you are worried and care too much about what will happen next. You must learn to detach yourself by changing your frame of mind. Say to yourself "Nothing matters," or "It doesn't matter" when you are experiencing an attack. And really mean it. You will feel a sense of peace come over you and the panic will subside. Give it a try and see if it works.

Hey, Coop - that's what one needs when they are a panicky person. A reason to panic some more. Like they don't already have the hour glass running in their head. C'mon ...think about it!
Sherwood.....I really hate meds and will wait until all else has fails but maybe getting on some meds to lower the anxiety WILL help. Then try going to the appointment wtih someone. Your mom? A friend? - someone who will take you themselves and who will not take no for an answer. Then do your part and reassure yourself while walking out the door and getting into the car. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS. Please just take these small steps and do it. Once you talk to the therapist maybe there is a way to meet you half way, so to speak. God bless you!

I feel for ya man. I can't relate fully to what you're going through but it sounds like hell. Keep seeking help, it's all you can do. Stay strong and try and get in contact with people who can try and be there for you. Do you have any family? Ring up that clinic or whatever it was and just say 'listen I'm sorry I missed the appointment. I've been going through a rough time and have a few personal issues. It'd mean a lot to me if you'd consider giving me a new appointment.'

not sure if it helps but you need to let the past go and make some goals in your life!
i'm sorry for the abuse and all the other bad things that happend to you.
sad part is so many people go through this.. it happend and your still holding it with you i know it's hard to let it go and move one but it sounds to me that's what you need to do to rid the anxiety!
yes it will be hard the first dozen times you step out of your house and try to break that fear but it will get easier as you practice it!
wish you luck

I have a friend who was told to be at the hospital for a paternity test at this hour on this day, he did not make it. So he has to pay for this child, even though he is not the father. He was told not to drank but he did and he was arrested but did not show up at the arraignment. There's more but each of the charges is a misdemeanor but they lobed them together, he's in jail for 4 years. He did not listen you anyone who tried to help and that is what you are doing, so it will be to late for anyone to help!!!! You better get on the ball and listen to the doctors.

You say that you have been diagnosed with BPD? You do need to consider the possiblity of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, in which could have arisen from past physical, sexual and emotional abuse. I get panic attacks if people get to near to me due to past physical abuse. I waqs diagnosed wit severe depression, but do get flashbacks. From my psychology study, this is part of PTSD. You have to identify what causes your panic attacks. Also, many doctors have misdiagnosed PBD when in fact it could be PTSD. Their method of diagnosis has changed as there is a blurring in the symptoms. But anxiety can be present in BPD. You could have both too.

perhaps you could start with basic medication to only reduce your anxiety enough to attend your needed sessions...if you do this, maybe your doctor will pull the necessary strings to help you get back "on track" with mental health services. you need a place to start, and this might be it.

I would probably find a differnt person to talk to than you have been...say some sort of counseler from a different town. Don't be worried...they're only there to help you overcome whatever it is that needs to be forgotten. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
