If I haven't hit submit I would go back and edit it and/or erase it but don't delete it if you haven't pushed the submit button.

No I haven't.. but I have started typing an answer and then realized I didn't want to answer the question because what I was saying might be like jumping into a fire.

submit...maybe i just read the question wrong...but took the time to write a long educated answer....why waste a perfectly good answer that "kinda" goes with the question(i read it wrong)

i still hit submit. I usually just perceive it differently.

Yes I have a few times. I just delete it or close the tab and move on
