A mule is the offspring from a male donkey and a female horse.
A hinny is the offspring from a male horse and female donkey.
Since horses and donkeys are two different species, the chromosomes don't match up right and the offspring is always sterile.
I did see a picture on the news about a horse that mated with a zebra and had the baby.

ZORSES! Yes, actually, zebra and horses (and donkeys) can ALL interbreed, as shown here:
"Zebras, donkeys, and horses are all members of the family equus - Equines. They are all slightly different in genetic makeup, but still all equines. Equines can be crossbred to produce hybrids. That is, horses have 64 chromosomes, donkeys have 62. The cross between a Donkey Jack (Stallion) and a mare Horse is called a Mule. The opposite cross is a Hinny. (Mules and hinnies can be male or female, either one, but are sterile since their chromosome count is 63).
So cross a ZEBRA to a HORSE and you get a ZORSE! Or a zebra stallion to a donkey jennet (mare) and you get a ZEBRASS (also called a zedonk or zonkey). These too are sterile hybrids, and cannot reproduce. Each mule, hinny, zorse or zedonk/zonkey is a one-time shot."

Yes. The offspring look like ponies with some stripes. Mules are the offspring of horses and donkeys.

A mule is a cross between a donkey and a horse. I'm not sure if zebras and horses can breed.

a mule is a mix of a donkey and a horse...if you are saying *** about someone's rear end then it is considered a derogatory comment and could offend someone, not that you meant to offend someone but that is how it is considered, and as for the curse words you should know by common sense not to say them in school of all places! and if you are stupid enough to say them in front of your teacher then you deserve to go to the office. bottom line is don't say them at all, it will save you the trouble of asking questions like this.

A zorse or zebrula is the offspring of a zebra stallion and a horse mare; the rarer reverse pairing is sometimes called a hebra. It is a zebroid: this term refers to any hybrid equine with zebra ancestry.
The zorse is shaped more like a horse than a zebra, but has boldly striped legs and, often, stripes on the body or neck. Like most other interspecies hybrids, it is infertile.

Actually, Zebra's and horses can't interbreed. there is a chemical that prevents fertilization and subsequent implantation. They are actaully more distantly related than humans and orangs. I'm sure that the pictures people are talking about have been doctored to fool the gullible.
Needless to say, these are things that have been attempted in a test tube to be sure. At least donkeys and horses are of similar size.
