By getting Santana? According to the Daily News it was him who convinced Ownership not to pursue Santana anymore claiming he's not worth the money.

An emphatic NO! This insanity is not Cashman's doing. This one we have to hang on "Hank the Yank". If Santana ends up in Boston it's Steinbrenner that has to do the explaining, not Cashman. I think Cashman is the only sane member of the Yankee management and I'm sure if he ends up fired there will be more than a few teams that would be interested in hiring him. I don't believe the Daily News. It's nothing but a communist rag to begin with.

Small Chance ? The Yankees are not doing well. If they don't get Santana and the Red Sox do, they won't even make the playoffs. It's not just taking a chance, it's coughing up the money and reaching an agreement . We are starting to see the decline of the Evil Empire and Red Sox Nation is spending lots of dough and have the farm system for players that's the model for MLB. It's not just up to Cashman, and the Daily News is more a tabliod than a newspaper. We have already seen the best years of Santana and there aren't many pitchers out there.

small chance?!?!?! ha!!!!
you can count on the fact that for the first time in a long time the playoffs will go on without any new york teams, but expecially without your yankees, itll be a third place finish, and they will probably finish closer in their division then they will in the wild card, however they will loose the division by double digits, and finish probably 3-5 games back of the jays, thats right third place
however, no i dont think cashman should be fired, youve already canned one of the main pieces of the teams brain trust, which is why youll finish so low this next year (that and the fact the yanks have done nothing to improve)

Cashman is one of the few sane voices in that organization. I'm surprised as heck that Son of Frankensteinbrenner is actually listening to him. Or maybe he's setting Cashman up to be a scapegoat so that the Hankster can take on the GM role in the near future.

No it has been proven that the only reason the yankees have slowed down is because Steinbrenner meddles too much .

No....actually he should be rewarded. If you take a good look around the MLB there aren't that many "top fight" "A" pitchers...anywhere.

The Yankees have quite a few really good prospects (Chamberlin, Hughes,etc...) & if all goes the way its been going...the Yankees are looking really good for the future.

No, every GM has to draw the line somewhere and make critical decisions that are in the best interest of the team.
