OK just forget for one minute that you are in the West, but imagine for a minute you are in charge of the government of Iran. You have just witnessed on your own doorstep an illegal and unjustified invasion of your neighbour and a subsequent occupation with enormous bloodshed and loss of life amongst your own people and armed forces, plus as an aside, the regime has been toppled and replaced by puppets loyal to the West. Given this set of circumstances and the clear impression that the good old US of A is gunning for your oil, wouldn't you think that getting your own nuclear, chemical and biological arsenal was a pretty good idea ?

Blue2: Who says the world trusts Israel with nuclear arms? You're joking yeah? They use a hammer to crack a nut any time something goes wrong! It's only a matter of time with them. All the more reason why Iran needs to protect itself.

There are about 8 countries in the world that have nuclear weapons and since WW2 nobody has used it in anger. It is a good deterrent but otherwise its useless. Any country could make them if they had the expertise, money and need. But whats the point as if a country did decide to commit suicide all they have to do is use it. If I were a Iranian I would much prefer to have a useful nuclear power plant to produce electricity which is just what they are doing.

Let for one minute put this " If I Were" jargon aside OK

Get it understood that all nations in this world would want to have a nuclear weapon if they could.

Many reasons - obviously all will say DETTERENCE as the main reason.

If that happens then dooms day cloack is ticking just somewhere soon for a nuclear war to destroy human civilization once and for all.

NOOO - No way !!

IRAN is a hostile nation , it is not a democratic nation and it is running with Islamic fundamental activist type principes !!

So dont even dream if U were or if I were rrulling Iran - IRAN wont be alowed to get nuclear capable !!

Every one should get a few nukes, USA has 10,455 and has fifty missing. UK has 200, France 350, Israel 550, Pakistan 40, India 65, china, 400, North Korea 8, Russia 8400, Iran, Syria may have brought some off the black market in Russia and from disgruntled ex military, hence the missing 50+.
i think we should kill each other, those of us who survive, may learn to live without these western creation of mass annihilation weapons.

I will justifiable seek to obtain nuclear weapons as a right, given that the US government has supported Israel in this same acquisition. Israel has had help from the USA with manufacture and procurement of all necessary items in this regard. Israel has had nuclear weapons in the middle-east for at least twenty years whilst the world turns a blind eye. Is this not unfair? What is good for the goose should be good for the gander!

In many ways yes and in many ways no. Let me elaborate. The problem with Iran holding nuclear weapons doesn't bother me as much as "what they will do with them". Israel has Nuclear weapons but the rest of the world TRUSTS that they will not use them. They have had plenty of opportunities: The Golf War, The Lebanon Crisis, etc. They were being attacked and yet they showed international reserve to NOT deploy a nuke that would kill millions. My fear is not that Iran will have nukes. Its that they will use them!

All nations should stand up to bullying at the hands of the US.

I don't see why Iran can't have the bomb. Our countries have huge arsenals and are therefore in no position to pontificate on this matter, though I think Iran has better things to spend money on, though nuclear power stations are a good idea, since they emit no gases like sulphur etc.

Some people are worried they would use them if they acquired them. There are lots of nations in the nuclear club, and so far only ONE of them has been evil enough to use them and slaughter tens of thousands of innocent civilians. Now, who could that have been?

How can anyone with a little working grey matter between their ears and a minimum love for the truth not agree with you. I do. Particular when to my horror I read a couple of weeks ago that Israel has had nuclear weapons for years supplied by the USA. Why can they have nuclear weapons and deny their neighbours the same right ?!
It baffles me.
----------------------------------
I agree with Michael W and
I agree with Misty Blue too and
I disagree with blue2monday --- don't speak for the rest of us. The world does NOT TRUST Israel with nukes. I do not trust Israel not to use them. And I am European and white. And I live far away from the Middle East. What logic do you hold on to to be able to say that Iraq on Israel's doorstep HAS to trust Israel ?! -- You see, whoever has nukes can DICTATE to its neighbjours what to do.

You forgot one major consideration that all countries around the world but the USA acknowledge, only 1 country has ever used a nuclear weapon in anger. All others have only kept them for DEFENSE. So, if I was in Iran I would want defensive nuclear weapons.

In a word NO.
President Mahmood Ahmedinajad has been quoted as saying that Nuclear Weapons are obsolete, because so many countries now own them and Mutually Assured Destruction is pure madness. To destroy yourself, is an act against god.
