'Twas the month before Christmas when all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying nor taking a stand.
Why the PC Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a "Holiday."
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks, and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets are hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was nowhere to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-is-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate "Winter Break" under your "DreamTree"
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday!

Nope, just go to the malls and see all the people buying presents for their children. I think the spirit of giving gifts is still going strong.

I thought this poem was great - I got it in an email.
I agree that this Holiday thing has gotten out of hand, and I'd like to see the stores name the holidays not lump them into one word but they're doing it because it's cheaper for their advertising - not just about not offending someone. After all to accept all holidays is to know what others are celebrating.
So lumping everything together is disappointing.
I think Christmas has been forgotten by most because we're so worried about the gifts now, not what Christmas is really about. You see it in the lists that people are dealing with - about kids wanting what they're friends have. Nothing is reflecting the birth of Jesus and I'm sure there are fewer who know little Christmas or the Epiphany and what that's about or even when it is.
So no Christmas isn't stollen by the retailers - we're giving it away by not keeping the traditions, reflecting on the true meanings and forgetting about keeping up with the Jones'

Great poem!!! I hate where this Country is going with all of the political correctness. It's way out of control. There is absolutely no way to turn a strictly religious holiday into a make everybody happy holiday. Christmas has long been forgotten as the day Christians believe Christ was born, and has now been turned into mega commercialism at it's finest. These people need to remember that without Christ's birth, and the celebration of it's remembrance, they would not make any money.
Oh by the way did I mention I'm an athiest? I still hold strongly to the ideal that people are free to believe in what they choose, and am in no way offended by anything regarding Christmas. It's just as important for you to believe what you feel makes you happy, and celebrate as such, as it is for me not to believe. What offends me is that people are trying to stamp out the right for people to celebrate their beliefs. If Christmas offends you so much, then stay out of the stores until after the holidays, so you don't have to be subjected to it. It's kinda hypocritical for Christmas to be offensive, but the same people being out loading up on gifts to give. Does that make any sense?

I was just getting ready to post the exact same thing! You're awesome!
Yes I feel Christmas is being taken away from me. It is terrible how it "offends" people. If you don't celebrate it then don't celebrate it. Christmas has been around for how long now? People need to leave it the hell alone! It is CHRISTmas!!!!!! Deal with it!!!!! People just have to complain to complain.
If you don't want to participate in songs and prayer then don't. That simple. Don't ruin it for everyone else. God is a good thing and it would be great to have a GOOD thing in schools etc.

Do some research. I don't mean look up more accusations on Obama, I mean leave the political realm entirely for a bit and do some sociological research. Start with research on poverty, and its causes, then look at how this can be fought. What you will find, is that poverty is cyclical, meaning when a child is born into poverty, they stay there. Not only due lack of money, but also due to the fact that generational poverty breeds a certain mentality. This mentality has aspects of desperation, rebellion, and ultimately learned helplessness. It also affects the way those in poverty see the value of things. One example is that those in poverty, though it would benefit them to do otherwise, often will spend what little money they have instead of saving it for something more practical. Most sociologists agree that the best, and often only way out of poverty is through education. What this means is just throwing money at them will not help. Neither will taking away all welfare benefits and telling them to "stop being lazy and work." The first option results in billions of wasted dollars. The second, in millions of starving and dying children. The only way to combat poverty is to keep them alive while helping them get an education. This takes money, which comes from taxes. Here is where it goes back into the political realm again. You can criticize Obama if you choose, it is your right to do so, but try thinking a bit harder instead of just repeating slogans you have hear other Conservatives say. Every president in recent times, at least since FDR has used tax payer money for welfare programs. What gives them this authority? The Constitution. Under the Constitution they have the power to tax, and the legislative body, made up of voter selected representatives votes on where that money goes. Your guys didn't get elected this time. That happens, it is part of democracy. Not everyone gets their way every time. Instead of whining and making veiled threats (that thing about your gun) why not accept it and wait till next election. If you want to contribute then instead of just running your mouth, try campaigning, and of course voting. EDIT- @ "Determined to Get there" Actually, I have been in poverty. What got me out was that I wa sremoved from my home and put into fostercare. I am out now, but my family is still in poverty. If you noticed I said the only realy way to beat poverty is education, this is proven through many sociological studies. I was by no means bashing the poor. The reason I used the example of the mentality that those in generational poverty develop of not saving money was it is an example people reading can understand. I could have used a more realistic example from my own home in which my mom and her boyfriend would get their check and buy meth instead of paying the electric bill, but to many people that sounds too far fetched to believe. It made sense to my parents. The idea is to escape the situation. If you don't have enough moneyto actually get out of the situation, you can "get out" through drug use. I agree with you that there is a problem with people being unable to accumulate the money they need to get off the system. You tend to make more money unemployed on welfare than you do with a crappy job, and if you get a job, you lose your welfare benefits. What's the point to get a job?

How has Christmas truly been stolen from you?
Have the police entered your church and told you that you and your family cannot pray?
Have the police entered the mall and told you that you cannot buy Christmas presents?
No.
Retailers are businesses and if they only include YOU, then they are spitting on everyone else.
Freedom FROM religion means that I should not pay teachers to teach YOUR beliefs. That is a job for you, and your church, of which neither has been stopped.

I absolutely don't feel that Christmas has been "stolen" from my family. We'll be celebrating it the same as always. The PC Police can't steal anything from me if I don't let them.

I guess you don't realize that other religions exist. Religion does not belong in public places where people of all faiths are. Why should MY child have to sing about YOUR wise men when that's not what we believe? If you want to pray..do it at home or in church..don't shower everyone else with your ideals as your ideals may not be theirs. Selfishness is an ugly trait.
