Yes there is no evidence that proves it is in any way harmful to an unborn baby.

Most women colour their hair at some time in their lives and many do it frequently so this is quite a common problem many women face. Whilst it hasn't yet been proven to harm the baby, hair dye has a lot of chemicals in it which you would be breathing into your lungs. This obviously gets passed down to the baby and it could potentially hurt them. Some women go ahead and do it anyway, and they say that their children were fine, whilst others simply will not even try it. It all comes down to personal preference.

So, some sources say go for it ~ even some baby magazines say it is totally safe because not much of the chemicals actually enter the bloodstream. Then other sources tell you not to take the risk. Technically you do not need to dye your hair so if there are any doubts it is always better not to. Your doctor should have a better idea so if you do have any worries you could always speak to them.

Hello, I was worried about this in my first pregnancy and did lots of reading up on the internet, and most seemed to say it was fine so I went ahead in my first and my second pregnancies. In my first, two years ago, I did suddenly get a reaction to the Loreal hair dye that my hairdresser had always used, which they said was down to hormines (burnt head loads of scabs etc) Someone told me that some hair dyes are stronger or more chemical based than others so I swapped to a salon that used Goldwell instead and all has been fine since. If you are only having highlights they barely touch your head anyway in their foils so I think that would be different.
I think its important to feel good when your pregnant so ask your hairdressers advice and go for it...try a new style while your there!

Good luck

Unless you plan on drinking the dye, it is totally safe. I do hair and if it were that dangerous then there would be waivers to sign and your hair stylist would have to ask you if you were pregnant before she even started.
I'm in my first trimester and bleached my hair from dark brown to baby blonde, it worked fine. Although I don't recommend going too light since your hair will be growing much faster due to prenatals, hormones, etc. It's only been two weeks and my roots are screamin'!
Be sure to check with your stylist before starting anything though. I let mine (who's also a girlfriend of mine) know and she said it's totally fine.

Yep....though I would wait till after the first trimester. I dyed mine in 2nd trimester....and it turned out great. Iv got dark hair and was advised not to bleach or drastically try to change my hair colour. I only ever use dark brown anyway. Good luck with the hair dye. It will be such a relief when u do it...and your hair will look amazing.

IT's not really recomended because when you actually dye your hair the cemicals touch your scalp, therefore they can get into your blood stream.
If you're going to dye you hair though,at least wait until your second trimester and do it in a ventilated area and wear gloves.
The best thing is highlighting or frosting since the bleach (or dye!) doesn't touch your scalp very much.
Prolonged exposure to dyes (skin contact) isn't a good idea.

I have done hair for 8 years now, and I get this question all the time. You are perfectly safe to color your hair! Let's all think about this for a minute.....If there was a problem with it, don't you think that all of us gals that deal with hair color, perms and such chemicals that they scare you about while pregnant MULTIPLE times a day during our ENTIRE pregnancies would have a high rate of defects and such in our children? We don't! So going in to have your hair colored or doing it yourself once a month or however often is not going to hurt your baby! Treat yourself! It is true that your color before being pregnant may not do the exact same thing now because of hormones.

I was always advised not to dye/bleach my hair in the first tri-mester, also you should have it done professionally at a salon rather then using a home kit as their products are far less harsh on your hair, they know the best ways to apply it and you can warn them you are pg so they can choose the most gentle solution for you.

Sure. Be careful with the change in hormones, what worked before could suddenly not work now. Make sure you're in a well ventilated area as well, because the smell can sometimes get overpowering for a sensitive pregnant nose.

Good luck!

Yes, you can after the first trimester...actually safer to wait til you arent pregnant, but modern hair dyes are safer than they used to be.

Doctors recommend you talk to your stylist to make sure there isnt henna or strong smelling chemicals in the dyes.
