Because of a small handful of people who go around and stalk/troll others by reporting every answer and giving a thumbs down to every answer of the person who they've had a disagreement with.

Some folk are happy within small social circles where their antics cant be observed (vanity, deceit, pretentiousness) Some cherish their privacy (protecting their personal feelings usually because they're introvert and arrogant) and some .. have little to say of any consequence. When all said and done, if people can pretend to be someone they're not, then you dont actually know what their gender or age is, nor their philosophy.
The site is for stress relief and answers to daily obstacles, why induce any more worry?

When I got on this thing, that was the advice I was given, as it makes it less easy for people to put you in a category or find out lots of stuff about you.

Some people like it that way cos of the trolls, I don't mind but I did get an account deleted cos of trolls

Because of the reporting being done on old questions and answers by someone who does not like you or your responses. They can go back and report every single one.

bcuz i would rather not have people from school, or people i know in real life, accidentally find my profile, and piece it together and find out who i am...
at first my Q & A was totally open, but i recently (by total coincidence) found a classmate on here, and i was horrified someone would find me..
some of my questions are personal, and people from school would read it and be like WOW, i did not know.. she liked, blah blah blah, or whatever.
:) thats my paranoid reason, yes

1) To avoid disappointing others
2) To hide from the curious ones
3) I don't try to be popular
4) I have complexes (lol -false)
5) To save myself from any annoying questions that anyone who has met me both in Yahoo and "offtline" would ask

Yes, i don't like doing it but some guy went back on my Q&A and reported me (i know that he did it because of the answer he gave to one of my questions).

because someone went through my old questions and started reporting them. (and mine are not offensive, but i was still getting violations)

to be honest in don't know if i have lol
but i don't want them to be, because it could limit what people can see what.
if someone wants to see another question of yours, then why not?!
