The government is always saying we should not rely on the state for our pension. We should save and sacrifice when we are young so that we are not a burden on the state when we are old.

So why do they allow gold diggers to marry someone for a couple of years or three then walk away with half of what he or she saved for their old age?

I agree with you it is so wrong, When I left my ex husband I said I didn't want any stake in his pension. And I have supported my daughter and myself ever since.

A good solictor will make sure you do not lose your pension entitlements.

I was with my ex for 10 years, but did not ask for any of his pension entitlements.

I do not plan to be reliant on him now, never mind when i am 65!!!

I imagine the law is probably there to protect someone whos husband walks out just before retirement age, a woman who has been bringing up children and not earning enough to have NI contributions towards a pension.

It's not a highly used law nowadays when most women go back to work and don't rely on the husband.

I think if the other spouse cheated the faithful spouse should walk away w/ half of what the other saved for their old age... that's what I think...

but in the cases of a true gold digger, yes, the laws should change =(...

Because her gold-digging traits were not exposed. Legally, spouses share everything 50-50. Unless there was a pre-nuptial agreement - when they split up - everything is divided equally. It also depends on who was the erring spouse. Sorry to hear about this.
