3 weeks ago and I never got how this relates to our present time today. My teacher asked me how but I didn't have any idea, I mean sure I got how it related then during the early Americans due to the advocating of freedom and democracy towards the Monarchy of England and ignorance of the king but how does this relate to present time?

Paine was of the extreme philosophy that stated that anytime the government doesn't meet the needs or desires of the citizenry, the government should be replaced.

This philosophy got him into a good deal of trouble. Paine eventually went and supported the French Revolution as well and nearly got executed by the same people he supported.

It is relevant today because there are a number of people that still hold to this philosophy. They think that the government is not making them happy, so it should be replaced. Most people of that philosophy forget that the very stability of our nation is endangered by such a thought.

I think if you read 'The Rights of Man' by Thomas Paine things will become a lot clearer. It boils down to ownership of property and is a conflict of interest between normal citizens and the affluent ruling classes, who in their own interest to keep their property(which they stole) keep the poor people poor. As Marx said 'All property is theft' In todays world with such disparances between rich and poor his views are still very pertinent in a search for a more equal and just society.

it relates BIG time. its about a nations people seeing that its government isnt running that nation very well, and basically squashing us and our rights (which ours is doing right now), and its our duty and RIGHT to stand up and fight or revolt against such government.
