You will need to take out a contents insurance in both your and your girlfriends name.

The landlord has no insurable interest in your posessions so can't insure them.

The property, i.e. the physical structure of the building, should be covered by the landlord, but you will need to take out contents insurance for the property that you have in the flat.

Some insurers ask that you have certain types of locks on the doors and windows so you will need to check what is currently there, and you may need to update if they are not good enough for the insurers. Check with your landlord before making any changes though.

The landlords insurance does not cover your personal belongings. You need to purchase Renter's Insurance. Shop around, different companies charge different amounts. Depending on the value of your things, you'll have to decide how much it would cost to replace all of it. Renter's insurance is not that expensive when you consider what you loss would be if you lost it all.

You will need to purchase renters insurance that is based on the amount of money that you would like to cover. For example, if you would like to cover all your belongings and the purchase amount of those items comes to $30,000 (ie. Electronics, furniture, jewelry, personal items, ect.) then your payments would be around $15/month. When you think about it, it is nothing, not even a dollar a day. That is worth it to me. It is offered at GEICO and many insurance companies, but that is one named. You might want to consider flood insurance as well. It depends on where you live and the likelyhood of that happening. Here is a link where you can find out exaclty what it would cost you through GEICO. Hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any questions.

No you will have to insure your own possessions. The landlord will have buildings insurance and will insure any of the fixtures and fittings and contents that he would have to replace in case of fire, burglary etc. You should get a basic insurance plan at a nominal cost.

If I were you I's insure them either way that way you have extra coverage in case something happens...I think thats where a lot of people go wrong when they get apartments, they don't insure anything...and it would be a sin if you had a fire and lost everything, or a flood....anything at all like that. But if you have insurance then your stress will be a little tiny bit less then what it would be if you lost everything and had no insurance

You will need to carry renters insurance. The LL only carries blanket insurance on the building. Which means if it burns down he is insured to rebuild it or repair it back to it's original condition, anything that was lost in the fire, i.e. your personal belongings, TV, Furniture, clothes, CD Player, DVD player, etc will not be covered, that's what renters insurance covers.

You can call the insurance company (Geico, Allstate, etc) and ask for renter's insurance. Then give an estimate of the replacement value. If you are like me and don't have anything valuable other than your dogs then don't bother.
Once you have a policy, you can take pics and load it onto a CD and store the disk in your car or at work.

nothing is insured with the an apartment that is why you need to get renters insurance, you can usually get this through your car insurance company (they will usually cut you a deal on it too). Some apartment complexes actually require u to get renters insurance before you can sign a lease.
