I don't see that my life is mine, but rather that I am a part of all life. I am a small part of all that makes up the whole of life. Because I am separated in a physical body and have the ability to make choices from what life presents to me, then I think that my life and and what is my experience of living will be the result of the choices I have made.
I know in the past that I relied too much upon my mind, and then I made all kinds of efforts to achieve things on the outside. Eventually I found out that striving for goals and things did not give me happiness, instead there was this big void of something missing. That is when I found the pearl, that is when I looked within and discovered a part of myself that was the real treasure. A treasure that would last for eternity and would never be destroyed. What I'm saying with this, is that even the part of my life where I relied too much upon material things and did all the efforts to acheive goals, was still 'what I did' and seemingly a step that needs to be taken to come to the point of realizing this is not what I wanted.
So I do agree that life is ours to make what we want out of it, but this does not mean that what we get will be something of value.
I also know that every move I make will affect all of life, because I am part of the whole, every action I make will have a reaction and will affect all other's who I share this life with. I see that we are creating life together as we go, and thus we are all affecting the present, which is that which will set the trends for the future.
So then the question remains for me of how to live my life in a way that is most inline with the whole of all life, finding a way to reduce my resistance to what is and adapt and change myself according to what is changing outside of me. So then for me, my life is mine and still I make choices for my daily life living, but life itself, the whole around me, shows me what are my options. Life presents the variables and I make choices among them, according to how I perceive them. How I perceive the variables changes as I change.
In a practical sense I look at what's repeating in my life, or focus in on those questions which keep nagging at me. These unresolved personal questions, then I see as my personal guide to help me know what parts of myself need updating. When I'm ready to confront those parts of myself, then I look at the variables life gives me in this moment and then make a decision to resolve this question by going into action to make a change in myself. The focus is not on achieving anything physically in the outside, but rather I use the physical as a vehicle to express myself in another way. The focus each day grows more into having fun creating and doing it because it feels good and because I want to share, versus trying to achieve anything with it.

no there are laws governing my actions and a society above me that i am beholden to the higher quality of.
I will not be able to do just as i like, until that society has developed to a point where there no longer need to be laws to govern my actions, because the possible range of actions I could take are so engendered to be good by the environmental conditioning I have recieved during my peaceful and loving life that there would be no need for them.
We need no-one to tell us what is good but will that truth ever be enough to get us where I want to go - Life becoming a constantly unfolding quality event. I don't know - but it's a beautiful enough question to use a life towards the answer

I believe people should be subjected to a reasonable amount of education before they are released into adulthood. In addition to mathematical and literary essentials, they should be aware of the consequences of personal and corporate actions. But otherwise, they should be free to do what they want. Of course, freedom is self-contradicting. The more one has, the less others have. So there would be strong laws to prevent anyone from abusing anyone else. That would cover nearly all of your worries. Unfortunately, there would still be freedom of thought, and that means there would still be racists, homophobes and other biases. There is a difference between thought and action. If you keep your prejudices to yourself, that's good enough. All the rest of us can do is provide examples and demonstrations that contradict the biases. Because once you CONTROL people's opinions, all freedom is gone. History shows us endless examples of Christianity and the Bible being used to justify slavery, racism and molestation, so religion will not protect you from such things. What is needed is people who take responsibility for themselves AND each other.

Yes sometimes in life we get side tracked or we are upset that in the past things should have happened for us soon and we get stuck in the now because we are always looking at the past and thinking of the future instead of accepting and concentrating on our reasonable goals at the present moment of the NOW time....................
We can all benefit if we put our energies on what we want and not worry or love others that show us no respect etc.............................
We have to be selfish in this way when others can drain our energies if we allow them I have truly learned a valuable lesson about a particular situation dealing with another and in the end I will be ok and blow up with my goals and I will soar high above the sky and my life will be awesome have to get there again........................

I think that the majority of my life is up to me as an adult, but there were decisions made for me as a child that had a great affect on my life as it is now. You can't always control what will happen to you but what you can control is your reaction to it. For instance your child might become severely disabled from an accident and it would change your life irrevocably of course, But if you let it totally end any chance for happiness that you and your child had, is something you can control. So yes you have lot to say about the direction of your life, yet you don't.

Definitely yes. The philosophy of life is you. You own yourself. It is what you do to become. You are the captain of your soul and the architect of your life. Whatever you do to yourself, you become. You cannot blame others for you make and plan your own life. Others may guide you but the maneuvering will always rely on you. As you plan out your life, you follow the guide you choose. Any changes from it will always be your decision. The major outcome depends on you. Life is what we are as what we made it to be one.
Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

It is up to you to do with you life what you would like. However, I also believe that we are all following God's plan for us. Whatever it is that we desire is what God has given us the desire for. It is up to us to make that happen though. We have to be willing, ready, and most of all determined to reach those in which we desire and overcome all obstacles that may come our way. If you want something bad enough, then you will eventually achieve it.

Winners take all the credit and losers blame everyone else. The truth is in between: success requires a combination of hard work and good luck, not necessarily in equal measure.

only the people who win or succeed, or are still trying say things like that...
what do the losers (and most people in life are losers) say?
some people just can never make it...
its 1 out of a million... not 999,999 or such...
some one has to suffer and lose to make the other side of the coin worth the effort and strife

People think they're in full control of their life/destiny. That's utter tosh. I think the plastic bag fluttering in the wind at the start of the film American Beauty is a good metaphor for life.
