I agree with the few people who said that you should tell them the truth. When, as a child, I found out that Santa didn't exist, I really felt like a fool because I believed in it all those years. I don't think it would cause any trauma at all, you can introduce them to a little bit of science, and that's more fun than just believing in a snowman who goes to the North Pole!

I had to tell my children the truth that when the sun comes out the snowman has to go away and to get there he needs to melt. Its worked for me

Let them watch frosty the snowman. He melts and says that we will be back some other day! And he does in frosty returns.
