The pomegranate is considered in many civilizations as the fruit of abundance. In China is given to newly weds to invoke fertility and the same was done in Ancient Greece. In Egypt pomegranates were buried together with the dead.
Zoroastrianism holds it in high respect, and for them the pomegranate being an evergreen plant is considered to be an emblem of immortality of the soul.
This belief with minor differences applies to all the cultures of the region. In all the middle east the pomegranate is considered important as emblem and fruit.
