The media is run by private corporations who give money to them to slant the news in the way that they see fit. If you throw some numbers at someone, they will think you know what you are talking about, so they make bogus polls and try to use that to push their views on others. Just good ole propaganda.

Great question.

What the media actually does is manipulate polls to fit there agenda. The most recent democratic poll out of Iowa was taken from only 460 likely democratic voters, with an error margin of +/- 5.5%. That certainly does not reflect the opinions of ALL Iowa democrats who WILL vote.

This is done in both parties, and will continue as long as the media goes unchallenged.

It's fairly well established that the major media despises Ron Paul. The reason is simple enough. He has a smaller budget to pay for national advertising. They have no desire to say anything good about a guy who can't buy advertising. But its worse then that. Ron Paul bypassed their business by using the internet to reach voters. In their terms he cheated and refused to play the game by the accepted rules. Politicians are supposed to spend millions of dollars at television networks. Who does this guy think he is trying to be popular without paying for it?
They won't say anything good about him and when the time comes they are more then willing to help trash him at a discount if someone could only find something bad to actually say. Till then they say he's old and has big ears. And they say that he loses all of their polls and theirs are the only ones that should count.

It depends on what kind of polls you're talking about. It's apples and oranges if you, for example, try and compare a statewide straw poll to a national random survey. They are conducted in different ways, targeting different audiences.

You can't trust ANY polls... especially political polls.

Most people who read poll statistics form their opinion from by the popular poll opinions.... and Who Really believes the numbers? There's NO way to prove they aren't rigged.

Don't believe the polls or the media. Do research and know for yourself.
They slant it in whatever party they like.

The media fixes things to say what the owner of each news channel or newspaper wants to to vote for. If you pay attention the person(s) they endorse are always doing better and have less negative remarks about. It's all fixed if you ask me.
