You poor things! The baby is in the best place for her best chance. I am absolutely sure that the hospital will do their utmost to help her, its what they are best at. My 3rd baby was born early (35wks) by emergency section. She had an undetermined infection (they couldn't tell what it was) but had difficulty with her lungs. She was in special care for 14 days. She was only 5lbs 2oz. She's now a very healthy, loud, 2yr old so believe that there is some hope and that she'll get the best chance they can give her. They are obviously treating her for the urine infection as well as pneumonia and its an awful lot for a new baby, especially after the trauma of coming into the world. They keep everyone away except the parents to reduce the risk of any additional infections/germs/colds/bugs etc coming anywhere near her. Her body is not able to deal with it alone (as you are sadly aware) and you are not immediate family (ie her parent or sibling). The risk of infection is too great - look at what she's got to deal with already! Don't be too upset that you are not allowed to see her yet. Give her some time to get better. But if the worst happens, do ask her mother if you can say "goodbye" to Miss K or you will always have questions in your mind.
I know the situations are not exactly the same and the mother is only 17 but its scary at any age. Just be there for the Mom whatever happens. She's going to need you to be strong for her, to give her the strength to cope with whatever happens. Stay calm for her. Be supportive.
Listen to the doctors and remember that if she pulls through all this, to love her unconditionally. I do hope this situation improves for you all. My thoughts are with you.

My thoughts go out to this little baby. Its important to keep hope. My friends baby was born 3 months early and it was a day to day thing. there were some complications, however he is now a healthy bouncing 8 month old who doesnt even have the look of a premmie anymore. Through all his hospital stay ive seen firsthand what fighters these angels are, and even met some children who had to be resuscitated at birth like your niece. Its amazing how the human body can recover. I hope everything goes well
