bad in order for society to see the good. Both poles must exist. But why then, do people seem to focus on nothing more than the bad, only to compllain how terrible life is becoming?

You ask a lot of questions, some good, some bad. If you have not done so already, I recomment you go to the library, find the series of books called "Great Ideas of the Western World," and read Volumes II and III. These discuss in short detail the 103 subjects most common to all philosophers. I think your good questions will get even better.

Psychologist found that if you were given a "bad" piece of criticism and it upset you.... it then take something like TEN positive things to eradicate the memory of the bad one. Bad things are often more traumatic, more upsetting and effect you on a far deeper level. Its much harder to get over a set back. The pain and bruising from a kick in the shin will last a long time... the warmth and niceness of a hug seems to end the minute the contact is broken.

...because they don't have an answer to the problem!
Loads of people 'rage against the machine' having a pop at "the system" without even having a proper definition for 'that System' not even knowing what they are attacking just attacking blind. That is exactly how that system likes it - it's got you where it wants you - beleiving that you're "supposed to fake this search for the truth, to imitate it." why else would peolpe not move form moaning about it to doing something about it? It's because they're copying what is and that is faking an attempt at improvement while not even questioning their own laziness and ignorance.
They have no hope of suggesting a better future without a workable definition of 'the problem' and every hope of dragging other people down into their self perpetuating depression with them.
." There is, in fact, no formal difference between inability to define and stupidity." Robert Persig

In life there must be ...food. Food for the body and food for the mind.
Life , attaining food for the body, has been a struggle. Now that we have moved past that primitive struggle, we now have the struggle of attaining quality food for thought. We're still in the infancy of that one.

The good is boring.
The bad is exciting.
The ugly is evil.
The good, the bad, and the ugly, makes for life all around the globe.

It is 'bad' manners to complain. Perhaps these persons who complain are in some perverse state of denial.

Misery loves company.
The greatest trick the devil ever played was to make people believe that he doesn't exist.
