Explaining is more difficult task. Understanding is much easier because there are things you seem to understand on your own but you hardly explain. You could draw things in your mind but it remains in your mind. Trying to explain things may not be possible because you lack the power to explain it. I may understand your question but sometimes i could hardly express to explain things the way you wanted it to be. So explaining is indeed a more difficult task.

Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

As Gryphon1 stated, the best way to learn something is to teach it. So I ditto his answer, the more difficult will be the explaining of something since we have to understand it thoroughly before we attempt to explain. To explain something, we have to question ourselves and know the reasons behind it. That being said, there are those who will attempt to explain something without much thought, or just quote some dogma. Not much effort there. I teach management classes, and I have learned so much from teaching it than all of the books I have read.

Thanks for your question

Something Ive done all my life is think in pictures,so this means that when I recieve information it forms a picture in my head and then it becomes colored by past experiance and emotions .I dont have much problem in understanding concepts. But--
Trying to explain that to another person becomes almost impossible.
I can explain the outline of my understanding but I cant make you feel the depth of that understanding, because so much of each concept has in a way become me.
so I guess the problem really isnt my inability to understand or explain my understanding .my frustration comes with your not being able to relate to my understanding.

I liked alfalfas answer, I run into that all the time.
course I am not that well educated either. I guess a good practice to adopt would be to try and explain the things i think i understand on a regular basis.

It's a two way equation; But i believe to understand is ...

In some situations You feel you understand a matter, your utterances can be so overwhelming you get stuck - 'lose Guard'. this acn be due to over confidence and the ''Wisdom knowledge Deffrenetial (gap)''.
.
Naturally it's best to have a concrete understanding, thence explaining your point will be easy.

Explaining, at least it is for me. It means you need to take all the random bits in your head and construct meaningful sentences out of them. Some people have that gift, for me it's very difficult.

Understanding something is more difficult if the explainer does not have good communication skills... However if the listener does not have good listening skills than it can be much harder to explain something...

It takes two to tango, in this case... One to listen and one to explain, both have to be on top of there game for this to work properly, and if one is not than it can be extremely frustrating for the other party....

So my answer is, both... Depending on what stupid person is listening and/or explaining something to me.....

In my understanding, these two subjects have different roots:
-To understand, first imply that you know the matter in question & then after the willing you want to get it or not.
To explain something:
False or truth, you have to be accepted by the audience as a valid party & then have the ability to creat an interesting atmosphere into the audience that you can catch their attention

Explaining. A wise teacher of mine once said, "You really don not fully comprehend something until you have the ability to teach it to someone else."

Grasping a concept is easy.
