From birth we socialize men to be violent.
So it follows that they commit the vast majority of violent crimes, including murder.
If you are interested in serial killers, a quick google will produce dozens of web sites with in depth studies.
Here are a few to start:
http://crimemagazine.com/serial.htm
http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/
http://www.allserialkillers.com/
Perhaps the best article I have ever read about the motivations for murder can be found here:
http://www.utexas.edu/features/2005/murder/
It explores the work of Dr. David Buss, an evolutionary psychologist at The University of Texas at Austin and author of “The Murderer Next Door: Why the Mind is Designed to Kill.”
He posits that we are at heart all murderers given the right circumstances.

I believe male killers are more common because of the nature of manhood: excessive testosterone, physical power, greater likeliness of being frustrated and aggressive than a female ( this kind of killers are most likely subjects with an inherited antisocial behavior )...

Contrary to PC belief, men and women are different even from birth. The mind of a man is naturally programmed to be protective in a warring manner, whereas women are programmed to be protective in a nuturing manner. Either sex can be deprogrammed and reprogrammed, however.
If society accepts women's programming we call it "civilization" and if the society you live in accepts the male mentality we call barbaric. Its really just an age-old battle of the sexes.

women doesn't have that crusial mentality to harm others and also social factors make them down to earth .
serial killing is kind of mental disorder for which they need serious therapy and treatment, and each one of them have their own resons to do, which we cant nuetralize to all.
